ORANGEBURG, SC – The Bears softball team closed out their down south trip suffering two losses at the hands of Claflin University Wednesday afternoon. The 'Bears Deep Down South Spring Break Trip' left the squad 0-6 after the non-conference setbacks to the Panthers.
Game 1 saw
Kiersten Coho (East Freedom, Pa) pitch a complete game in the circle giving up, 8 runs, 5 earned on 11 hits while striking out 2. The Bears picked up a run on a RBI single from senior,
Raylene Uribe (Riverside, Calif.) that scored
Delanie Cruz (Chicago, IL) in the top of the 5
th inning.
Maddie Feddersen (Islip, NY) got the nod in Game 2 and held the Panthers to 4 runs on 7 hits, going five and two-thirds with two strike outs. Freshman
Jarae Keli'ikoa (Wahiawa, HI) drove in Bloomfield's lone run on a single that brought in Uribe in the top of the first inning. The visitors scattered 5 total hits in the second game of the day and failed to push across another run.
Coach Corley commented, "It was good to get out there and play finally and give our team a chance at live action. We learned a lot and have some things to build upon from here on out. I was proud to see how our freshmen competed and responded to playing ball on this level."
Bloomfield heads back home with an opportunity to rest up before opening their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule with a showdown in Delaware. The Bears will travel to face the Wildcats of Wilmington University on Saturday, March 17
th. The first pitch of the double-dip is set to begin at 12:00 pm.
