BLOOMFIELD BASEBALL EARNS SPLIT WITH NYACK AT CREDIT UNION PARK

PAMONA, NY – Bloomfield managed a split in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) baseball play Thursday afternoon on the road against Nyack College. The Warriors took Game 1 by a score of 2-1 while the Bears came storming back in Game 2 for a, 10-4 win. Bloomfield moved to 7-12-1 overall after the games at Credit Union Park in Pamona while Nyack settled at 14-14-1 on the season. The home team finished the day even at 7-7 in league match ups and the visitors left with a 2-6 mark in conference play.

The Warriors struck first in Game one and drove in 2 unearned runs in the 3rd off starter, Anthony Elefante (Forked River, NJ) who went seven innings and struck out five batters while walking just two of the twenty-six faced. The Bears offense failed to drive in enough runs and scattered six hits across nine innings. Anthony Lantigua (Belleville, NJ) went 2-of-4, which included a triple to center, that led-off the doubleheader. Bloomfield plated a run in the 7thinning but it was not enough and the visitors would have to wait for redemption in Game 2.

Redemption came swiftly in the second game of the day as the Bears scored in every inning except for the 1st.  Anthony Maldonado (Newark, NJ) got the nod on the mound and notched his 2ndwin of 2018, going 5 innings, giving up one run on two hits while striking out three and walking two. Senior Juan Reina (Paterson, NJ) and junior Khalid Leggette (Newark, NJ) combined for five RBI as the Bloomfield bats went for 11 hits, all singles, in Game 2.

The Bears now turn their sights on their long-awaited home opener, scheduled for Friday the 13that Westside Park. The inclement weather in the east region played havoc on the Bloomfield schedule and finally fans will get to see some action in Newark when the Cougars of Caldwell University come to town for a CACC doubleheader. Game 1 is set for a 10:00 am first pitch.
