Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

POWERED BY THREE 1ST HALF GOALS, BEARS THRILL FANS WITH, 3-0 HOME OPENER WIN AT FOLEY

BLOOMFIELD, NJ– The Bears women's soccer team took to Foley Field for the first time in the 2018 season and scored a, 3-0 shutout over Queens College Sunday afternoon. Lisa Parello (Staten Island, NY), Victoria Napolitano (Garwood, NJ) and Helene Salerno (Wayne, NJ) each scored a goal in the opening period that put the game out of reach for the visiting Knights.

The Bloomfield offense was aggressive from the start as Parello chipped a shot over the Queens keeper, Shenae Kreps (Nampa, ID) off a dish from Salerno in just the 7thminute of play.  The Bears leading scorer, only in her rookie season, Napolitano, doubled the visitors' deficit a little over a minute later with a shot into an empty net with the goalie vacated on a deflection. The Bears faithful were roaring in Foley Field, up 2-0 when Salerno decided to put her own offering in the back of the net at the 10:40 minute mark.

The Knights held a 7-6 advantage in shots heading into the halftime break but the home team's senior goalkeeper, Emira Sela (Staten Island, NY) was up to the task, saving 6 shots on target. Queens also held a 2-0 edge in corner kicks as they turned up the offensive pressure to try and get a foothold back in the game but the Bloomfield defense, anchored by Ciara Alston (Carteret, NJ) and Malinda Heffernan (Staten Island, NJ) shut the door on their opposition the rest of the way. The Knights failed to put a shot on goal in the 2ndhalf despite taking eight shots.

The Bears will enjoy Labor Day Weekend after the non-conference victory and prepare to get back on the pitch Wednesday when they host AIC. The 7:00 pm regional battle will be played under the lights at Foley Field and feature Live Stats and Video on the website.
