BLOOMFIELD, NJ– The Bears women's basketball team used a double-double from senior forward,
Deja McKenzie (Baltimore, MD) to propel them to a 57-45 win over visiting Goldey-Beacom College Saturday afternoon. Bloomfield improved their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) record to 3-5 and upped their overall mark to 4-13.
The Lightning (8-9, 4-4 CACC) were sluggish offensively to open the game and the home team jumped in front 18-9 in the first quarter. Bloomfield extended their lead to eighteen (36-18) by intermission at The Den on the strength of 50.0 percent shooting from the floor, fueled by McKenzie's 6-for-12 field goals in the 1
sthalf.
The offensive production went down for both CACC squads in the third quarter as the Bears and Lightning scored 9 and 8 points respectively in the frame. The home team's advantage was large enough to withstand a 19-12 push from Goldey-Beacom in the final quarter and earn Bloomfield their fourth victory at home.
McKenzie finished her day with 20 points and 13 rebounds, followed by classmate,
Bobbi Floyd (Las Vegas, NV) who chipped in 11 points and 7 boards. Freshman sharpshooter,
Jaylah Bennett (Newark, NJ) also scored 11 points, going 2-of-4 from beyond the three-point line.
The Bears hit the road for a Tuesday evening CACC showdown with Dominican College. The tip-off with the Chargers is schedule for 5:30 pm on Coach Baxter Court.
