Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

BEARS HOLD ON, 75-73 OVER CONCORDIA TO REMAIN PERFECT IN CACC PLAY

BLOOMFIELD, NJ – After a three-game skid in non-conference play, the Bears men's basketball team returned to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action and escaped with a, 75-73 victory over Concordia College Wednesday evening. The North Division battle with the Clippers kept Bloomfield perfect in CACC contests, improving them to 3-0 and 5-7 overall. The visitors fell to 4-8 on the season with a 1-2 mark in conference play.

The Bears clawed ahead, 20-11 after a 3-pointer from senior captain, Kavione Green (Amityville, NY) at the 12:13 minute mark. The home team extended to a 14-point advantage (31-17) on a bucket in the paint from Matt Lajeunesse (Union, NJ) before settling for a 37-30 lead at halftime. Green ended the first half with 14 points to top all scorers and Bloomfield held a commanding 28-14 edge in rebounding in the opening frame.

Five straight points to begin the second half drew the Clippers to within two but the Bears kept their CACC rivals at bay with back-to-back three-pointers to push the lead up to 45-37. The visitors remained in striking distance down the stretch and a three-point shot with eleven seconds left to play brought a hush over the crowd in The Den as it cut the deficit to, 74-73. Senior, Keith Washington (Philadelphia, PA), fresh off of scoring his 1,000thcareer point on Sunday, calmly sank a free throw that helped to preserve the league win.

Green, who has recorded a double-double in three out-of the last four games, ended the evening with 23 points and 10 rebounds was joined by Newark, NJ native, Rich Chapman who recorded 15 points alongside 11 rebounds. Lajeunesse went 5-of-8 from the field and 3-of-5 from the charity stripe for 14 points followed by Washington, who finished the night with 11 points.

Bloomfield now turns their attention to a road match-up with USciences on Saturday afternoon in Philadelphia. The Bears hope to avenge a loss to the Devils in last season's opening round of the CACC playoffs when they take the court at 3:00 pm.
