LAKEWOOD, NJ– The Bears hit the road for the second of three Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contests and dropped a, 79-58 decision to Georgian Court University (GCU) Saturday afternoon. The setback left Bloomfield with a 4-15 overall record and a 3-7 mark in conference play while the Lions improved to 7-11 overall and 7-3 in league action.
The visitors put up a tough first quarter as the Lions clawed out a narrow 18-17 lead but then the Bears offensive fell flat in the 2
nd frame and the home team jumped out to a, 50-25 halftime advantage. Bloomfield battled the rest of the game but the deficit after an 8-point 2
nd quarter was to much to overcome and GCU defeated Bloomfield for the first time since the 2008-09 season.
Senior,
Deja McKenzie (Baltimore, MD) knocked down a team-high 16 points, grabbed 8 boards and snagged 2 steals. Sophomore Guard,
Jonise Ledbetter (Willingboro, NJ) and freshman guard,
Jaylah Bennett (Newark, NJ) each chipped in 8 points for the Bears.
Next up, Bloomfield will close out their three-game road trip with a visit to Concordia College on Wednesday, Jan 30. The Bears will look to grab a win in CACC play when they take on the Clippers at 5:00 pm in Bronxville.
