BRONXVILLE, NY– The Bloomfield College women's basketball team took a trip across the Hudson River to face their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) north division rival Wednesday evening and scored a, 70-62 victory. The Bears dropped the Clippers to 4-16 overall and 2-9 in league match-ups while improving their conference record to 4-7 with a 5-15 overall mark.
Despite falling behind early in opening quarter, the visitors clawed back and took a 19-15 advantage into the 2
ndframe. Bloomfield extended to 9-point lead by the break as their freshman starting backcourt knocked down 5-of-10 from beyond three-point range.
The Bears exploded out of the locker room for a, 21-14 3
rdquarter as
Jaylah Bennett (Newark, NJ) continued to light it up from long range. Concordia made a surge in the final period, opening on a 14-5 run to cut the visitors lead to six (61-55) with 4:21 left to play. Bloomfield regained composure and sunk free throws to seal the win.
Bennett finished the evening with 23 points, going 6-of-10 from beyond the arc. Classmate,
Caitlin Townes (Newark, NJ) recorded 18 points alongside 7 assists as the tandem went a perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line.
The Bears return to the friendly surroundings of 'The Den' next Tuesday when they host Felician University. Game time is set for 5:30 pm against the Golden Falcons. The CACC contest has been chosen as the Mental Health Awareness game by the Bloomfield SAAC. Mental health and breaking the stigma of talking about the various issues has become a point of emphasis with the NCAA, as schools and conferences across all divisions have stepped up to raise awareness.
