Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

BRIDGEPORT SWIPES ONE IN THE DEN; DEFEAT BEARS, 84-68 WITH 2ND HALF COMEBACK

BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The Bloomfield College men's basketball team dropped a non-conference battle against the University of Bridgeport Tuesday evening, 84-68. The setback marked the Bears second-straight game in which a team came-from-behind in the 2nd half and moved their record to an even 3-3 for the season while the Purple Knights improved to 5-1 on the year.

The Den was filled to capacity as Bloomfield opened up a 16-point lead in the first half with 3:41 to go on the clock. Darin Bellinger (Stroudsburg, PA) got off to a hot start once again, draining 3-of-4 shots from 3-point range for 9 points in the opening period. Freshman Abdallah Elsaleh (North Bergen, NJ) also poured in 9 points (4-of-5 FG) in the first half to help the home team to a 39-31 lead at intermission.

The second half saw the Bears offense go cold, shooting just 27.3 percent from the field and Bridgeport capitalized with a 32-point swing by game's end to complete the come-from-behind victory.  The home team converted just 1 three-pointer in the 2nd frame with Elsaleh finishing the game with a career-high 16 points. Bellinger ended his night with 13 points and senior guard, Safee Abdus-Sabur (West Orange, NJ) went 4-of-17 from the field for 14 points. Classmate, Matt Lajeunesse (Union, NJ) led the way on the boards with 13 rebounds.

The Bears take some time off for the Thanksgiving break and return to the court next Tuesday for the start of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play. Bloomfield will travel to Concordia to take on the Clippers at 7:00 pm in Bronxville.

The Bloomfield College Athletic Department would like to wish you a safe and joyous Thanksgiving holiday.
