WOMEN'S BASKETBALL WINS HOME OPENER, 78-54 OVER VISITING CHEYNEY U

BLOOMFIELD, NJ - After starting the season on the road for seven straight games, the women's basketball team was excited to play their home opener in front of the Bears Nation on Tuesday. Bloomfield came away with their first win of the year in a 78-54 victory over visiting Cheyney University. The win moved the Bears to 1-7 overall while the Wolves fell to 1-6 on the season.

The Bears offense came alive in front of the familiar faces in The Den as they posted a 31-point first quarter, the highest quarter output since January 20, 2018. Freshman center, Nyasia Bryant (Newark, NJ) recorded 8 points in the opening frame on a perfect 3-of-3 shooting performance from the floor. The home team opened up a 43-26 advantage by halftime and never looked back after the break.

Sophomore guard, Jaylah Bennett (Newark, NJ) finished the night with a team-high 15 points, connecting on 4-of-10 shots from beyond the arc. Redshirt-Junior, Ivana Negron (North Bergen, NJ) dazzled the crowd with 12 points on the night, knocking down 4-out-of-7 shots from 3-point range. In her first game in front of the Bloomfield faithful, DaShanique Ruffin (Paterson, NJ) posted a double-double with a game-high 14 rebounds to go along with 10 points. Bryant finished the night with 11 points and snagged 6 rebounds while starting point guard, Alaisha Mumford (Jersey City, NJ) dished out a season-high 7 assists and to go along with 7 points and 3 steals.

The Bears hibernate for the Thanksgiving break and return to action next week with the start of Central Atlantic Collegiate play on the road in New York. Bloomfield will travel to Concordia on December 3rd for a 5:00 pm tip-off against the Clippers.

The Bloomfield College Athletic Department would like to wish you a safe and joyous Thanksgiving holiday.
