ABDUS-SABUR POWERS THE OFFENSE IN BEARS OPENING DAY WIN OVER LE'MOYNE, 62-59

ALBANY, NY – Men's basketball opened up regular season action on the road at The College of Saint Rose Tip-Off Tournament Saturday evening. The Bears squared off with LeMoyne College during the first contest of the tournament and scored a, 62-59 victory in Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.

The first half saw the return of Safee Abdus-Sabur (West Orange, NJ) in a Bloomfield uniform as the senior exploded for 14 points (4-of-9, 3-of-5 3pt) that fueled a, 31-17 lead for the visiting team on the scoreboard. The Bears went scoreless though, across the last five minutes of the half and the Dolphins countered with a 9-0 spurt to settle the halftime score at, 36-35. Matt Lajeunesse  (Union, NJ) had a solid start for Bloomfield, netting 6 points to go along with 5 rebounds.

The 2nd period saw the teams jockeying for points as they played to a 59-59 tie with 2:44 to play when Abdus-Sabur buried a three-pointer to put his team in front. That bucket turned out to be the game-winner as neither squad scored the rest of the way and Lajeunesse ended the night with his 12th double-double of his career.  The Bears defeat the Dolphins for the first time in five tries, including the teams' last meeting in the NCAA Tournament East Region Final in 2018.

Bloomfield will return to action tomorrow when they face the tournament hosts, The College of Saint Rose. The second game of the season is set for a 4:00 pm tip-off and will have Live Stats and Video available.
