WATERBURY, CONN – The Bloomfield College men's basketball team saw the return of junior forward, Rich Chapman (Newark, NJ) as he played in his first game of the 2019-20 campaign Wednesday night at the Drubner Center. The top returning-scorer from last year's squad didn't disappoint, turning in a team-high 25 points but it was not enough as the Bears fell to Post University, 83-75.
The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) setback moved Bloomfield to even on the year with a 5-5 overall record and a 2-2 mark in league play. The Eagles improved to 6-4 for the season and 1-1 in conference games.
The offense sputtered in the opening half as Chapman and the Bears found themselves down 42-26 by the intermission break. The team made just 10 shots in the period (10-of-28) which included 2-of-9 from beyond the three-point arc.
The visitors roared out of the break and quickly whittled the Post lead down to one (47-46) with less than five minutes played in the 2nd half. A Chapman three-pointer at the 12:08 minute-mark gave Bloomfield their first lead of the contest (54-52) but the Eagles regained the advantage on the very next possession with a three-ball of their own and never trailed again in the match.
Chapman poured in 19 points in the second half and finished the night shooting, 9-of-20 from the field, 5-of-10 from 3-pt range and added 7 boards. Safee Abdus-Sabur (Newark, NJ) was the only other Bear in double figures, netting 21 points on 8-of-17 shooting from the field. Senior, Matt Lajeunesse (Union, NJ) grabbed a team-high 9 rebounds to go along with 4 points and 2 blocks.
Bloomfield will return to action for a non-conference contest on Saturday, December 21st when they host Franklin Pierce. The Ravens visit The Den as part of the CACC/NE10 Crossover Classic this weekend with a 3:00 pm scheduled start.
