BLOOMFIELD, NJ - After suffering their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) loss on Wednesday, the women's basketball team bounced back Saturday afternoon with a 63-61 win over Caldwell University. Sophomore, Jaylah Bennett (Newark, NJ) led the offensive attack with 21 points as the Bears moved to 4-8 on the year and 3-1 in league play.
The first quarter saw the visiting Cougars go up, 12-10 to start but Bloomfield countered with 18 points in the 2nd to go into halftime up 28-27. By the end of the third the home team had increased their lead to three (49-46) and kept the Cougars in check down the stretch as the setback dropped Caldwell to 1-10 on the year and 1-3 in conference matches.
Bennett shot 50.0 percent from the field (9-of-18) and knocked in 3-of-7 from beyond three-point range. DaShanique Ruffin (Paterson, NJ) had a monster performance herself, recording her third double-double of the year with 19 points to go along with 15 rebounds.Â
The hard-fought CACC win concludes the Bears' games in 2019. They will rest up and enter the new year with their first challenge coming on the road against Bowie State on January 2nd. The non-conference match is set for a 1:00 pm start with Live Stats and Video available on the website.
