BLOOMFIELD, NJ- The Bears women's basketball team lost their fourth consecutive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game Saturday in a, 75-67 setback to Wilmington University. The Wildcats improved to 6-10 in league play while moving to 6-17 overall. Bloomfield slipped to 4-11 on the year in conference play and 5-19 overall.
The game opened with a three-point bucket from each team on their first possessions. The Wildcats then reeled off the next 12 points and went on to secure a 24-13 advantage by the end of the first quarter. The home team roared back with 11-straight to start the 2
nd(24-24) but Wilmington held on to a slim 31-30 edge at the halftime intermission.
The third quarter belong to the Bears as they used a 27-22 frame to go up, 57-53 heading into the final period. The visitors had too much firepower down the stretch and pull away from Bloomfield to hand them their fifth loss in The Den this year.
Freshmen guards,
Jaylah Bennett (Newark, NJ) and
Caitlin Townes (Newark, NJ) were the top scorers for the Bears. The Brick City tandem scored 15 and 13 points respectively with Townes snagging 8 rebounds.
Deja McKenzie (Baltimore, MD) scored 12 points along with
Sydnei Alleyne (Brooklyn, NY) who poured in 12 points as well.
Bloomfield will host Dominican College on Tuesday in their next conference match up. The Chargers are set to enter The Den for a 5:30 pm tip off.
