BEARS BASEBALL OPEN THE 2019 CAMPAIGN WITH THREE TOUGH SETBACKS ON THE ROAD

NORTHBOROUGH, MA - February 23 marked the start of the season for the Bloomfield College Bears baseball team. Their first games were up against the Assumption College Greyhounds; twice on February 23 and once more on February 24. After 3 games and 2 days, the Bears left the diamond having loss all three games.

Game 1 against the Greyhounds ended, 9-1 and gave a loss to senior pitcher Brelin Dixon (Newark, NJ) (0-1) after 3 innings of work. Sophomore catcher Kevin Rodriguez (West Orange, NJ) went 2-for-4 while junior Kendon Strachan (West Hempstead, NJ), freshman Tyree Bradley (West Orange, NJ), and senior Elmy Antonio (Newark, NJ) all went 1-for-3. 

In an, 11-5 setback during game 2 of the day's doubleheader, it was sophomore pitcher Alexis Guerra (Perth Amboy, NJ) that received a loss on the mound (0-1) while Bradley went 3-for-5 from the plate with a run scored and an RBI for Bloomfield. Junior transfer, Darwin Tavarez (Garfield, NJ) drew two walks and went 1-for-3, scoring a run and driving in a run.

Finally during game 3 played on Sunday the Bears saw the contest get away from them, 21-5 as sophomore pitcher Anthony Elefante (Forked River, NJ) (0-1) took the loss on the mound, after 2 and 2/3 innings and gave up 9 runs (5 earned) on 4 hits and walked 6 batters. Junior infielder, Jason Holguin (Lakewood, NJ) and freshman catcher Elvis Lopez (Randolph, NJ) each picked up 2 RBIs on the day.

The next stop for the Bears will be in Dobbs Ferry, NY when they go up against the Mercy College Mavericks. The first pitch is set for Friday, March 1 at 2:00 p.m.
