PHILADELPHIA, PA– The Bears softball team picked up their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victories under new Softball coach
Phil Delgado Sunday afternoon in a 2-0 sweep of Jefferson University. Bloomfield hit the road and scored a 5-2, win in Game 1 and a 4-2 victory in Game 2 to move their overall record to 4-7 with a perfect, 2-0 conference mark for the first time since 2015. The Rams fell to 5-7 with the setbacks and 0-2 in league play after Sunday's contests.
GAME 1
Sophomore righty,
Maddie Feddersen (Islip, NY) picked up her first win in the circle, going four innings, giving up 2 runs on 3 hits with four strikeouts. Freshman hurler,
Taylor Galyean (Cottonwood, CA) recorded her first save of 2019, coming on in relief for 3 innings to scatter two hits and struck out 4 batters.
Sophomore 1
st-baseman,
Jerae Keli'ikoa (Wahiawa, HI) belted her first career homerun on a 3-run blast over the left field wall in the bottom of the first. Keli'ikoa finished Game 1, 2-for-3 with a run scored while classmate,
Mariah Wysocki (Voorhies, NJ) and freshman,
Arlene Flores (Hemet CA) each went 1-for-3 with an RBI in the first game of the day.
GAME 2
Gaylean got the nod in Game 2, pitching a 6-inning gem for the win as she remained perfect, 3-0 for the Bears this season. The right-hander from California gave up two runs on five hits, walking two and striking out two. Senior
Lauren Booth (Maple Shade, NJ) came on in relief and recorded her first save on the year.
Flores went 1-for-3 again in Game 2 and drove in two runs while
Alexis Freudenberg (Islip, NY) was a perfect, 2-for-2, including a 2 RBI double in the fourth inning. Sophomore volleyball-transplant,
Junelly Marrero (Las Vegas, Cantano, Puerto Rico) saw her first action in a softball uniform when she pinch ran and scored a run on Freudenberg's double.
"It's an awesome feeling to pick up two conference victories at this level," said Coach Delgado. "Jefferson is a top-flight team and I was proud to see our players battle against them and compete. We still have work to do but have set a foundation to continue to build in the right direction."
Bloomfield will continue league play when they take the field on Tuesday against the Golden Falcons. The CACC double-dip against Felician University on March 19 is slated for a 2:30 Game 1 first pitch.
