BOCA RATON, FL -The second match of the week between the Bears baseball team and Stonehill College down in Florida ended with a, 9-7 Bloomfield loss. The non-conference regional contest marked the team's sixth-straight setback to start the 2019 season.
The loss on the mound went to junior pitcher/infielder,
Kendon Strachan (West Hempstead, NY) (0-1) who came on in relief for starter,
Wilfrido Valenzuela (Paterson, NJ) in the 5
thinning. Strachan pitched 2 innings and gave up a run that put the Skyhawks ahead with a lead they maintained for the duration of the game.
Sophomore catcher
Kevin Rodriguez (West Orange, NJ) went 2-for-4, scoring two runs and collecting an RBI. Senior infielder,
Elmy Antonio (Newark, NJ) hit 2-for-3 on the day, drawing a walk, driving in a run and also scoring a run in the 5
thinning.
The next games for Bloomfield will be a Friday match against American International College (AIC) on Friday followed by a doubledeader against the Yellow Jackets on Saturday. Friday's first pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. while Saturday's double-dip is slated for an 11 a.m. start.
