PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Bloomfield College men's basketball team hit the road to square off with nationally ranked, Jefferson University in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action on Saturday and suffered an 83-70 setback. The league's top-team used a 53-point 2nd half to pull away from the Bears and dropped the visitors to 10-9 overall on the year. The #14 ranked Rams snapped a three-game losing streak, dating back to March 4th of 2016, to Bloomfield and improved their overall mark to 17-2.
The Bears shot a modest 45.3 percent from the field (24-of-53) for the game and were led on offense by senior Safee Abdus-Sabur (Newark, NJ) and junior, Rich Chapman (Newark, NJ) who scored 20 and 15 points respectively. The visitors even went into the locker room up 33-30 at The Gallagher Center, holding the Rams to just eight-made baskets in the opening half.
The story of the game became a tale of two halves with Jefferson coming alive in the 2nd, shooting at a 57.6 percent clip and took control of the inter-divisional match. The home team buried 6-of-11 shots from beyond the arc in the final frame and secured their 10th-straight win while pushing their perfect CACC record to 10-0.
Bloomfield (6-4 CACC) will return to the friendly confines of The Den for a Wednesday, January 29th battle with Post University. The Bears will look to avenge a lost to the Eagles back on Dec 18th when they fly into town for a 7:30 pm scheduled tip-off. The Bloomfield coaching staff will also be participating in Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers Week, a nationwide event where basketball coaches unite for a common cause – to help those living with cancer.
