BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The Bears men's basketball team, winners of 4-out of their last-5 league matches, welcomed Post University to The Den Wednesday night for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) north division showdown. The visiting Eagles rose to the occasion with an 84-69 victory and completed the season sweep of Bloomfield to improve to 14-6 overall and 8-3 in conference matches.
The opening half saw the home team build a 17-point advantage (33-16) as Post struggled to find their offense with 6:11 remaining in the period. The Eagles reeled off an 18-5 run to close out the half and went into the locker room down 38-34.
In the 2nd half, the home team watched Post turn up the pressure and forced 13 Bloomfield turnovers. The Bears offense also went cold as they converted only six shots (6-of-25) in the final half of play and dropped their second-straight CACC contest.
Rich Chapman (Newark, NJ) led all scorers with a game-high 18 points off the bench and shot 50.0 percent from the field (6-of-12). The junior forward notched a double-double, grabbing a team-high 10 rebounds. Senior guard, Safee Abdus-Sabur (Newark, NJ) recorded 17 points and went 8-of-12 from the free throw line. Junior transfer-student Daren Bellinger (Stroudsburg, PA) added 11 points with his 14th start of the season.
Bloomfield will hit the road for their next challenge on Saturday, February 1st against Goldey-Beacom College. The Lightning welcome the Bears for a CACC battle with a 3:00 pm scheduled tip-off.
