WILMINGTON, DEL – The men's basketball team travelled down the Turnpike for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) inter-division battle with Goldey-Beacom College Saturday afternoon. The visiting Bears suffered a 94-67 setback to the Lightning and fell to 10-11 overall and 6-6 in conference matches. The  home squad improved to 9-11 on the season, with a 6-5 mark in CACC play.

The Bears opened the contest in a see-saw battle with the Lightning as the home team held a slight, 20-17 lead with just over ten minutes played. A 10-4 spurt from Goldey-Beacom prompted a Bloomfield timeout but the Lightning held the momentum and cruised to a, 43-34 halftime advantage while out-rebounding the Bears 22-13

The visitors mounted a charge netting the first 5 points of the 2nd half before Goldey-Beacom took control and stretched their lead to 26 (89-63) with three minutes left on the clock. The Lightning avenged a post-season loss to the Bears in the CACC Tournament semi-final round a year ago and handed Bloomfield their third-consecutive league setback. 

Daren Bellinger (Stroudsburg, PA) knocked in a game-high 20 points on 7-of-16 shooting from the field including 6-of-14 from three-point range.  Senior guard, Safee Abdus-Sabur (Newark, NJ) added 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field in just 24 minutes of playing time. 

Bloomfield returns home for more CACC action on Tuesday,  February 5, when Concordia College comes to town. The Clippers and Bears are set for a 7:30 pm tip-off in The Den.
