BLOOMFIELD, NJ - The Bears women's basketball team put up their second-highest scoring output of the season Saturday but it was not enough as they dropped a, 77-71 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) decision to Chestnut Hill College. Bloomfield's overall record dropped to 4-21 on the year and 3-13 in conference play while the Griffins improved to 10-14 overall and 9-6 in league contests.
Kayla Sykes (Egg Harbor Township, NJ) tied her season-high, netting 14 points on 5-of-14 shooting from the field in 34 minutes of work. The freshman also posted her first career double-double, snagging a game-high 10 rebounds for the Bears. Sophomore Jaylah Bennett (Newark, NJ) was the only other Bloomfield player in double-digit scoring as she recorded 11 points, on 4-of-8 shooting which included 3-of-6 from long range.
The Bears came out focused in the first quarter at home and enjoyed an 18-14 lead heading into the 2nd frame. The Griffins soared back to take a 40-37 advantage into the intermission break. The road team grabbed control of the game with a 22-11 third quarter and kept Bloomfield out of striking distance down the stretch.
The Bears return to action on Tuesday for another CACC battle, this time on the road against Dominican College. The Chargers host Bloomfield at the Hennesey Center in Orangeburg, NY for a 5:30 pm tip-off on the CACC Network.
