BLOOMFIELD TOUGH ON NYACK IN THE DEN TO SNAP LOSING STREAK, 68-62

BLOOMFIELD, NJ - The Bears women's basketball team snapped their 14-game losing streak Wednesday evening with a 68-62 win over Nyack College. The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) north division victory improved Bloomfield's overall record to 5-22 on the year and 4-14 in league contests while the Warriors fell to 6-12 in league play and an 8-17 mark overall on the year.

The home team jumped in front early with a 16-10 first quarter effort. The Bears maintained their advantage heading into the locker room up by four (36-32) after two quarters of play. Sophomore Caitlin Townes (Newark, NJ) was on fire in the opening half as she dropped 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field which included a perfect 3-of-3 from beyond the three point line.

Nyack opened up the 3rd quarter with a quick 5-0 spurt and took a 37-36 lead but the home team responded on their next possession with a Jaylah Bennett (Newark, NJ) bucket in the paint and Bloomfield never trailed again in the game.

Bennett finished the evening with a near double-double, dropping 9 points to go along with 9 rebounds. Townes finished the game matching a career-high with 22 points and added 3 assists alongside two steals.

Kayla Sykes (Egg Harbor Township, NJ) tied her season-high, netting 14 points on 5-of-14 shooting from the field in 34 minutes of work. The freshman also posted her first career double-double, snagging a game-high 10 rebounds for the Bears. Sophomore was the only other Bloomfield player in double-digit scoring as she recorded 11 points, on 4-of-8 shooting which included 3-of-6 from long range.

The Bears look to close out the season on a positive note when they travel to Caldwell University on Saturday. The regular season finale against the Cougars is set for a 1:00 pm tip-off in the George R. Newman Center.
