PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Bloomfield College baseball team headed to Finnerty Field Sunday afternoon to take on Pace University and dropped a pair of non-conference road games. The setbacks moved the Bears to 0-3 early in the season while the Setters' record improved to 3-3.
Game One – Pace 13, Bloomfield 5
Bloomfield saw Pace put up points in six different innings as junior transfer, Raymond Sarza (Teaneck, NJ) got the start on the mound. The newcomer hurled three and two-thirds innings, giving up five runs, four earned, on six hits and struck out one batter.
Seniors, Julius Puryear (West Orange, NJ) and Kendon Strachan (Westhempstead, NY) each went 2-for-4 in the opening game of the double-dip. Puryear had a double, a run and recorded 2 RBI. Tyree Bradley (West Orange, NJ) drove in a run on a sac-fly and Elvis Lopez (Randolph, NJ) along with Justin McKeown (Piscataway, NJ) each drove on runs on doubles in the 8th and 9th innings respectively.
The Bears failed to capitalize on opportunities, leaving 13 runners on base during game one.
Game Two – Pace 1, Bloomfield 0
After putting up a combined 18 runs in the opener, the Setters and Bears thrilled the crowd with a pitcher's duel in Game Two.
Junior, Anthony Elefanti (Forked River, NJ) pitched the entire game and scattered four hits and gave up the single run in the bottom of the 4th inning. The Bloomfield offense only managed two hits in the second game and stranded four base runners.
