BLOOMFIELD, NJ - The men's basketball team used a last second shot from senior, forward,
Rich Chapman (Newark, NJ) to pull out a, 65-63 win Thursday night on the road. The season opener against Nyack College was played on the campus of New Jersey City University (NJCU) as the two Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference teams battled down to the wire.
Chapman, finished his night with 16 points on a modest 7-of-16 shooting from the field and added six rebounds and two assists. Sophomore, forward,
Abdallah Elsaleh (North Bergen, NJ) pitched in 14 points for the Bears, with four boards and two blocks. Freshman,
Andres Fulgencio (Teaneck, NJ) made an impact during his debut in a Bloomfield jersey, tickling the net for 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field, including 3-of-6 from beyond the arc.
The visiting team never trailed in the game and were up by as-many-as twelve points in the contest but Nyack battled their way back into the game and finally knotted the score at 63-63 with thirty-four seconds to play. After a timeout by the Bears Coach,
Gerald Holmes, the architect drew up a play designed for his senior leader on the team and Chapman delivered with the game-winning basket.
Bloomfield will now turn their attention to Concordia College as the Clippers come to town on Saturday, January 30th. The home opener in The Den is set for a 12:00 pm start between the two CACC opponents.
