BLOOMFIELD, NJ - The Bears avenged an early season loss Thursday evening when they pulled out a 54-41 victory over visiting Concordia College. Bloomfield used a career-day from junior transfer,
Morenike Akinrefon (New Brunswick, NJ) who dropped in 18 points on 9-of-17 shooting from the field and led the home team to a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win. The Clippers fell to 4-4 on the year overall and 4-4 in conference play while the Bears improved to the same record respectively and improved their post-season positioning.
Bloomfield edged out Concordia in the opening frame of the game, 11-10 and used a 10-8 2nd quarter to head into the lockeroom up by three. The home team welcomed back to the court junior guard,
Jaylah Bennett (Newark, NJ) who chipped in 10 points after converting three shots from beyond the arc. The contest turned into a see-saw battle with the CACC rivals changing the lead seven times. The Clippers pulled ahead by six (31-25) early in the third quarter but the Bears weathered the storm as Akinrefon converted four of the last five Bloomfield points in the fourth to seal the win.
The Bears will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 27th when they host Felician University for a make-up game postponed from the 2nd of the month due to a snow storm. The Golden Falcons soar into The Den for a 12:00 pm tip-off with heavy conference playoff seeding in the balance.
