CALDWELL, NJ – The Bloomfield College women's basketball team opened their 2022-2023 campaign down the road at the Caldwell University Conference Challenge against Bentley University and suffered a, 75-47 setback. The Challenge was held on Mark Corino Court and will continue play tomorrow with the Bears squaring off with Assumption University.
Bentley (1-0) controlled the contest from the opening tip, going up 14-9 in the first quarter and then shot 50.0 percent from the field in the 2
nd to take a 34-24 advantage into halftime. Bloomfield (0-1) didn't have the firepower to keep pace across the final two quarters as they were outscored 41-25 down the stretch.
Starting forward,
Myasia Jackson (Trenton, NJ) scored 9 points for the Bears on 4-of-11 shooting from the field while freshman, Anisha Able (Newark, NJ) came off the bench to also scored 9 points with an efficient, 4-for-5 shooting from the field performance.
Daniya Darby (Jersey City, NJ) and
Morenike Akinrefon (New Brunswick, NJ) each chipped in 8 points to the Bloomfield offensive effort. Darby and freshman, Erika Mercedes (Union City, NJ) held down the boards with 6 rebounds each.
Next up for the Bears will be a showdown tomorrow against the Greyhounds with a scheduled tip-off of 3:30 pm in the Bloomfield College Gym.
