BLOOMFIELD, NJ - Bloomfield College Athletics sends their deepest sympathies to the family of former Head Women's Basketball Coach David Caputo, who passed away on March 13th in Middletown, Delaware. Caputo led the Bears for four seasons from, 2013 to 2017.
In his first season at Bloomfield in 2013-2014, Dave's program made history capturing their first ever outright CACC regular season crown, the conference tournament championship and the program's first ever automatic NCAA Tournament berth. In the 2014-2015 season "Coach Cap's" Bears team received their first ever national ranking as they hit #21 in the NCAA DII polls. He was named the 2016 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Coach of the Year, after guiding the Bears to their third straight regular season conference championship title. In 2016, Caputo also led his squad to their second NCAA tournament appearance as his team set program records in overall wins (24) and conference wins/record with an (18-1) mark. Since Caputo's arrival in 2013-2014, Bloomfield had amassed the second best conference record in the entire east region with an incredible (48-9) mark and his team's defense was ranked Top 10 in the nation in PPG allowed in each of his first three seasons. During his tenure at Bloomfield, Caputo had coached 10 All-Conference players, 1 All-American, 1 Conference Player of the Year, and 1 Defensive Conference Player of the Year.
The Caputo family invites you to commemorate the life of David Caputo on Sunday, March 20, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. A memorial will be held at Memorial Hall on the campus of Delaware State University, 1200 North Dover Highway,
Dover, Delaware. Parking is available throughout campus. Please email
