Baseball Takes Series From Caldwell 2-1
The Bloomfield College Baseball team won its series against Caldwell University. The Bears won the opening round game at home on Tuesday April 5th in a final of 5-4 behind a 9-inning complete game performance by senior pitcher Raymond Sarza. Ray scattered 7 hits while striking out two, walking four, and surrendering four runs. The offense was paced by timely hitting, a home run from freshmen
Kevin Sanchez, and five combined stolen bases from
Jonas Espinal,
Javell Barnes, and
Angel Murray.
The second game of the series took place at Caldwell University on Sunday April 10th which included a DH split; 7-4 win and 4-5 loss. In game one, Bears pitchers Manny Gonzalez and
Bryan Guzman combined for 9-innings of quality work, allowing 10 hits but only three earned runs and two walks. However,
Justin Sanchez stole the show with two home runs and three RBIs.
Caldwell took the rubber match on a walk-off sacrifice fly, but noteworthy for the Bears was another solid pitching performance from Chris Walker, who was able to pitch in to the seventh and record seven strikeouts. Bears freshmen
Luis Ramirez and
Kevin Sanchez recorded two hits a piece and senior
Elvis Lopez hit a home run.
