MERCY STEALS VICTORY FROM THE BEARS IN HOME OPENER THRILLER IN THE DEN, 51-48

Box Score BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The Bears women's basketball team played their first home game of 2023 on Wednesday evening and suffered a, 51-48 setback to Mercy University. The Mavericks used the non-conference victory to remain unbeaten at, 3-0 while Bloomfield slipped to, 1-2 with the loss.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
    ·      Daniya Darby 11 points (4-6 FG, 3-3 FT), season-high 9 rebounds
    ·      Tiara Mahorn season-high 11 rebounds, 6 points (2-10 FG, 1-2 3PT, 1-2 FT), 2 assists and 1 steal
    ·      Jasmine McDuffie 8 points (4-11 FG) 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal
    ·      Kamrin Babbs 8 points (3-7 FG, 2-4 FT) 5 rebounds, 3 rebounds and 1 assist
KEY MOMENTS
    ·      Bloomfield opened up on a 14-4 run capped by a McDuffie layup in the paint. The Bears finished the quarter up 16-9 as the crowd in The Den got their first look at the 2023-24 squad under new head coach, Anthony Green.
    ·      Darby finished off a 9-2 spurt with a fastbreak bucket in the paint and a subsequent freethrow to start the 2nd quarter. (25-11) Bloomfield would take a, 34-23 lead into the halftime break.
    ·      The Bears went on a scoreless four-minute drought to open up the third quarter and the Mavericks took advantage, eventually knotting the game up at 40-40 to end the period.
    ·      CACC Player and Defensive Player of the Week, Taneshia Tucker fouled out with 7:08 on the clock and Mercy took advantage to seal the game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
    ·      Tucker finished the game with 4 points (2-7 FG), 4 assists, 1 steal and 1 rebound.
    ·      Anisha Able grabbed 5 rebounds and made 2 blocks in her debut at The Den.
    ·      Erika Mercedes came off the bench to add 4 points (2-3 FG), 2 rebounds and 2 blocks.
    ·      Mercy outshot the Bears 53.9 percent (7-13 FG) to 15.4 percent (2-13 FG) in the third quarter to close the gap. The Mavericks held a 36.5 percent (19-52 FG) to 32.8 percent (20-61 FG) edge for the game.
    ·      Bloomfield out-rebounded the visitors, 41-34 and snagged a 10-4 advantage in steals while boasting a 14-8 edge in second-chance points
