PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Bloomfield College men's basketball team traveled to the City of Brotherly Love for the semifinal round of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament Saturday evening and fell, 80-79 in an overtime thriller. The Bears season comes to an end with an 18-11 overall mark while their opponent, Thomas Jefferson University advances to the CACC Championship game with an 18-11 record.
During the first half, the Bears fell behind, 22-13 (9) before running off six straight points. Jefferson countered with an 11-4 spurt and pushed to their largest lead of the half (10), before heading into the intermission break up, 33-26.
Deavion Ellis (North Bergen, NJ) led the North Division's #2 ranked team with 8 points at the half while
Izaiah Poole (Newark, NJ) came off the bench and provided a spark with 6 points.
Out of the break, Bloomfield clawed out a 10-1 run to pull ahead at 36-34. The teams battled back and forth to a 44-44 tie with a little over twelve minutes to play. The see-saw continued to teeter-tooter until the teams ended regulation tied at 63-63.
The Rams erupted in the extra period for the first six points and ignited the home crowd. Bloomfield struggled with the deficit and cut it to one on a
Tyrek Battle-Holley (Jersey City, NJ) with only eight seconds to play. An intentional foul put Jefferson at the line and after missing both freethrows the Bears had life with two seconds to play but could not capitalize.
Josh Morris (Ewing, NJ) finished the game with a team-high, 25 points and 10 rebounds. Morris went 12-for-12 from the freethrow line to help keep the Bears close in overtime. Ellis and Poole finished the game with 16 and 13 points respectively while Battle-Holley rounded out the top-scorers with 11 points and a perfect 6-for-6 from the freethrow stripe.
