ORANGEBURG, NY – Junior guard, Kamrin Babbs goes for a career-high, 28 points against Dominican University on Wednesday but the Bears fell, 72-62 on the road. The first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest of the new year moved Bloomfield to 1-10 overall and still searching for their first league win at, 0-3. The Chargers secured their first conference win to put them at, 1-2 and improved to 4-8 overall.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
· Babbs' game-high of 28 (11-22 FG, 4-8 3PT & 2-3 FT) went along with 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks and 2 steals
· Taneshia Tucker recorded 12 points (5-9 FG, 1-1 3PT & 1-2 FT), 3 steals, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and a block
· Anisha Able snagged a team-high 10 boards and added 3 points
KEY MOMENTS
· Both teams struggled in the first quarter of play, shooting under 30 percent from the field but the Chargers used 5-of-6 freethrows to push in front 17-10.
· Babbs carried Bloomfield's offense in the 2nd period as she went 5-for-7 from the floor which included two 3-pointers but Dominican extended their lead to 13 (41-28) by intermission
· The Bears offense came to life in the third as they shot 50 percent from the field with Babbs and Tucker going a combined, 7-for-10 from the field. Despite their effort, the visitors only closed the gap by one heading into the final frame.
· Bloomfield posted a 15-13 fourth but the home team held off their charge down the stretch and secured the CACC win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
· Dominican forced 20 turnovers and converted 12 points off of them. Bloomfield edged-out the Chargers in points in the paint, 28-26
· Able's 10 rebounds helped the Bears win on the glass 48-44 while the home team lead on the scoreboard from start to finish.
WHAT'S NEXT
· The Bears head home for their first contest at The Den in 2024 on Saturday, Jan 6 (1:00 p.m.) when they host another CACC foe in Goldey-Beacom College.
· On Monday, Jan 8 (5:30 p.m.) Bloomfield will host their final non-conference opponent when UDC visits The Den.
