Bears Hold On In Fourth Quarter To Defeat Dolphins, 72-67 In Home Opener

BLOOMFIELD, NJ – Senior Taneshia Tucker registered a double-double of 13 rebounds and 10 points that aided the Bears women's basketball team as they held on down the stretch against the College of Staten Island, 72-67 Wednesday evening in Bloomfield's home opener.

  • Bloomfield's first win since November 16, 2022 over the Dolphins. The all-time series record is now 2-1.
  • The Bears bench outscored the visitors, 22-9 and held a 53-39 advantage in rebounds. CSI forced 24 Bloomfield turnovers while committing only 15.
THE ACTION
  • The Bears stepped out to an early 6-2 after a Mia Martinez layup however the Dolphins seized the opening quarter (16-13) on a layup by Alarcon that captured her career milestone. 
  • Another layup from Alarcon capped a 6-0 spurt and the guests were up nine (20-13) with less than two minutes played in the 2ndquarter. Burgess drove in the paint for a bucket that drew the home squad even at 25-25 after a 15-5 run of their own. Babbs sank a layup to send the teams into the locker rooms with Bloomfield up 36-33.
  • The Bears would go up by as many as fifteen (55-40) to end the third quarter when Tucker took a feed from Tamorie Wilson up and in off the glass. 
  • In the final frame, the Dolphins flipped thier fortunes and used a nearly five-minute drought from the home tem's office to knot the score at 62. Back-to-back three-pointers from Babbs sealed the deal in the final two minutes of play as Bloomfield doubled up CSI down the stretch, 10-5.
