BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The women's basketball team finished strong Tuesday evening as they upset Dominican University, 75-73. The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) battle saw Tiara Mahorn lead the way for Bloomfield with a season-high, 23 points in The Den. The Chargers, who sat third in the CACC North Division, fell to 11-14 overall and even at 7-7 in league contests.
Despite starting off with a 24-14 deficit after the first quarter, the Bears came roaring back in the 2nd quarter and pulled within 35-34 heading into halftime. Mahorn poured in 8 points in the 2nd frame and helped her team shoot 50.0 percent from the field (7-14 FG) in the quarter. Taneshia Tucker recorded 11 of her 19-point total across the first two quarters as Bloomfield stayed within striking distance down the stretch.
The home team were down 61-58 after three quarters but clawed their way to a, 17-12 fourth to claim the upset and improve their overall record to 6-18 and 4-10 in the CACC. a team-high, 24 points (5-18 FG, 3-10 3PT, 11-14 FT) and dished out 4 assists. Daniya Darby once again led the team in rebounds as she recorded a double-double, snagging 12 boards to go with 19 points. Bloomfield enjoyed four starters in double figures as Kamrin Babbs rounded out the top-scorers with 11 points.
Next on the Bears schedule will be a Wednesday, Feb 28 showdown with the University of Bridgeport. The CACC match-up on the road is set for a 6:00 p.m. start in Connecticut. Bloomfield will close out their 2023-24 campaign on Saturday, March 2 when they host Caldwell University for Senior Day.
