RUTHERFORD, NJ – Bloomfield captured their 7th-straight win Tuesday night in a, 79-69 victory over Felician University on the road. The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) decision left the Bears atop the North Division by a half-game with a record of 7-3 while their overall mark improved to 15-6. The Golden Falcons fell to 7-5 in league play and 11-12 overall for the season.
Al Fatir-Conner led all scorers with 19 points on 50.0 percent shooting from the field (8-16 FG, 3-3 FT). The red-shirt sophomore, led five Bloomfield players in double-figures as a balanced attack helped the visitors gain an advantage in the 2nd half of play. Starrell Hearns came off the bench to pour in, 14 points (6-13 FG, 2-9 3PT) followed by Deavion Ellis who chipped in 13 points (6-9 FG, 1-2 FT) and 4 rebounds.
The teams were tied at 35 heading into the locker rooms after the Golden Falcons scored five-straight points across the final 2:17 of the opening period. Despite a see-saw battle to begin the first ten minutes of the second half, Izaiah Poole tickled the net with a jumper that put the visitors in front, 58-57 and the Bears never relinquished the lead. Poole finished the night with 10 points (4-7 FG, 2-2 FT) and five boards while Abdallah Elsaleh flirted with a double-double, recording 11 points and 9 rebounds. Edward Ngene continued his defensive dominance, racking up 8 blocks and 9 boards to go along with 7 points.
Next up, Bloomfield will return to The Den for a CACC cross-division match-up with Jefferson University on Saturday, February 10. The Bears are looking for payback after the Rams ended their playoff run last year in the semifinal round of the CACC tournament when the two teams square-up at 3:00 pm.
