BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The Bloomfield College Softball team earned a split Saturday afternoon with Georgian Court University (GCU) in their home opener at Clarks Pond South. The Lions took Game 1 by a score of 5-4 but the Bears clawed out a 4-3 comeback in extra innings to capture Game 2.
Bloomfield moved to 4-10 on the season and 1-1 after their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action of the year. GCU shared a similar 1-1 record in conference play after Saturday's action and an, 8-8 overall mark.
Jocelyn Moody (1-4) came on in relief in Game 1 and suffered the loss after freshman, Rayn Romero got the start and went three innings, giving up 3 runs on 5 hits and struck out 2. Moody surrendered two runs on four hits and walked three in four innings of work. In the bottom of the 6th, Daniela Vidal ripped a triple to right field which drove in two and pulled the home team even at 4-4 but the Lions responded with the go-ahead run in the top of the 7th and secured the Game 1 victory.
Danielle Walters stepped in the circle for Game 2 and secured her third win of the season (3-3) pitching a complete game (8 innings) allowing 3 runs on 7 hits and struck out 6 batters. Vidal came up big in Game 2 as well when she hit a walk-off sac fly in the bottom of the 8th that scored Walters on a close call at the plate.
Sierra Albritton went 6-for-8 on the day which included 2 doubles, scored 3 runs and stole 2 bases. Moody went 5-for-7 at the plate, driving in 2 runs and scoring 2. The Bears finished the day committing no errors in the field.
Next up Bloomfield will travel to the City of Brotherly Love to take on Thomas Jefferson University in a CACC doubleheader on Tuesday, March 19. The double dip with the Rams is scheduled for 2:00 pm & 4:00 pm.
The Bears return home for a non-conference tilt against Bloomsburg on Wednesday, March 20 at 2:30 pm & 4:30 pm.
