BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The softball team earned their first sweep of the season Saturday as they took a pair of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) games against Chestnut Hill College. Bloomfield secured Game 1, 13-3 in five innings and then came back for an, 8-0 win in Game 2. The setbacks left the Griffins with a 1-13 overall mark and still searching for their first win in league play at, 0-6.
Sierra Albritton led off the Bears half of the first inning with a single through the right side followed by a steal of 2ndbase. She later came around to score after an error by the second baseman and the home team would pull across three runs to begin Game 1. Jocelyn Moody belted a grand slam homerun in the 2nd inning and Bloomfield was in full control of the CACC contest. Daniela Vidal went 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI in Game 1 while Naya Olacio also contributed three RBI on a 1-for 3, performance at the plate. Moody pitched five innings to pick up her 2nd victory of the season, striking out five and giving up three runs on six scattered hits.
The highlight of Game 2 came in the 4th when Danielle Walters belted a single through the left side of the infield for her 100th career hit at Bloomfield. Walters (5-3) also got the start in the circle and pitched a one-hitter in five innings with five strikeouts and no walks. The home team's offense racked up 8 runs in the first three innings started by Raelyn D'Onofrio's RBI single in the opening inning. Catcher, Anna Wilson went 3-for-3 in the game with 2RBI and Albritton and Moody stole 2 bases apiece.
Bloomfield improved to 4-2 in CACC play and 7-12 overall after the wins and will hit the road on Tuesday, March 26 to face Southern Connecticut State University. The non-conference doubleheader with the Owls is set for 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm. They return to CACC play on Wednesday, March 27 when they visit the Dominican University Chargers at 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm.
