BLOOMFIELD, NJ – Despite a nagging drizzle of early morning rain pushing the Saturday doubleheader start time at Clarks Pond South back an hour, the Bears softball team managed a split at home against Holy Family University. The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) games left Bloomfield with an overall mark of 14-17 and 8-4 in league action while the Tigers moved to 9-26 overall with a 6-8 mark in conference play.
The Bears came back to capture Game 1 by a score of, 5-2, after spotting the visiting team 2 runs in the top of the 2ndinning. The home squad came roaring back in the bottom of the fourth, pushing across four runs powered by a 2-RBI double by Audrianna Ortiz. In the fifth, Bloomfield added an insurance run when Jocelyn Moody singled up the middle and scored Anna Wilson who had reached on a walk. Moody also got the start in the circle and picked up her fifth win of the season after allowing five hits in a complete game of work. Raelyn D'Onofrio went 3-for-3 at the plate, including a double to right field and Danielle Walters captured the games only stolen base in dramatic fashion as she stole home plate during the Bears 4th inning rally.
Holy Family came back in Game 2 with a 4-0 decision to earn the split. Walters got the start in Game 2 and held the Tigers off the board until the 6th inning when she gave up a homer to left field. The visitors tacked on three more runs in the 7th and kept the Bears off the scoreboard scattering four hits in the game. Sierra Albritton picked up her team-leading 18th stolen base in Game 2 and Naya Olacio belted her fourth double of the year. Walters finished her day with 8 strikeouts on the mound and three walks. The senior gave way to freshman, Rayn Romero who came on to strikeout the final Holy Family batter.
Bloomfield will return to Clarks Pond South on Tuesday to host the University of Bridgeport in more CACC action. The battle between the league's #2 and #3 teams in the standings is set for 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm and will be broadcasted on the CACC Network.
