WORCESTER, Mass. – The Bloomfield College of Montclair State University women's volleyball team were swept during a road tri-match, as they were defeated by Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) 3-0 and bested by Assumption University 3-0, Saturday afternoon inside Andrew Laska Gymnasium. The non-conference setbacks left the Bears at 0-4 on the season.
GAME 1 -
SNHU jumped out to a 14-3 lead in the opening set and never looked back taking Set 1 by a score of 25-13. Bloomfield pulled within four, 21-17, late in the second stanza but a pair of Penmen aces powered a 4-0 rush that made it, 2-0. The Bears scored the first two points of the third, the Penmen ripped off nine-in-a-row and went on to close out the match, 25-15.
Kyomaris Morales led the team with 11 kills and added an ace, a block and a dig in the match.
Sophia Wintonick picked up 12 digs and 3 assists while
Amanda Arroyo paced the offense with 14 assists.
GAME 2 –
The first set against Assumption began with the two teams trading the first few points of the contest. The Greyhounds went on a 7-2 run after the score tied at 11-11 and eventually captured a, 25-20 win in the opening set. The Bears started fast in the second set, racing to an early 6-1 advantage however the tri-match hosts found their footing and came back to knot the set at 17-17. Assumption used an 8-2 run to go up 2-0 following a 25-19 set win. The tight match would continue into the third period, but the Greyhounds captured another 25-20 with to close out the three-set sweep.
Ronaya Moore stepped up for the Bears in Game 2, recording 8 kills, a service ace and a block. Morales also secured 8 kills and added an assist. Arroyo once again set the offense with a season-high 20 assists and 4 service aces while newcomer,
Amaia Oliver had a career-best 13 digs.
Bloomfield will look to regroup when they return to the court on Tuesday, September 24 for their home opener. The Bears welcome CACC rival Felician University into The Den for a 7:00pm showdown.
