WILMINGTON, DEL. – The Bears men's basketball team hit the road for their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match of the New Year and came up short, 84-80 against Goldey-Beacom College Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hearns scored the opening bucket of the game but the teams battled back-and-forth to a 13-13 tie at the 13:54 minute mark. The Lightning then struck a, 13-5 run to go up eight (25-18) halfway through the period.
- A three-pointer by Hearns followed by an Ngene layup brought the Bears all the way back on the strength of a 9-0 run to lead 27-26.
- Goldey-Beacom, with five minutes remaining until intermission and the score in their favor, 33-31, exploded on a 15-5 spurt to take control (48-35) heading into the half.
- The majority of the 2nd half saw the Lightning keep their double-digit advantage intact even as late as, 6:30 on the clock (72-61) but Bloomfield mounted a surge that came within, 80-78 after another Hearns three-ball.
- A jumper from Powell and a couple freethrows from Robinson helped preserve the home team's league win over the Bears.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Bloomfield had the advantage in the paint with 36 points to Goldey-Beacom's 24.
- The Lightning countered with a, 16-7 edge in points off turnovers.
- Ngene blocked 9 shots and helped the Bears hold a 10-3 advantage in swats.
- The home team commited only 9 turnovers while forcing 14.
