The 2009-2010 basketball season marks head coach Gerald Holmes’ eighth year guiding the Bloomfield College Men’s Basketball program. His reign at the helm of the Deacons has seen him become the architect of a perennial CACC conference power, and one of the premier men’s basketball teams in the region. Holmes saw his career record improve to 120-88 with an outstanding season from his Deacons in 08-09, in which they posted a 23-7 record and earned a regular season CACC title before falling in the CACC Tournament championship game. The banner season earned Holmes the CACC Coach of the Year Award.
THE HOLMES DYNASTY
During the 2003-04, 2004-05, & 2005-06 seasons Coach Holmes led the Deacons to 3 straight CACC championships and two consecutive NCAA tournament appearances, including the first ever NCAA tournament appearance in school history. In 2004-05 he was honored as the All-Met Coach of the year.
BEFORE HE WAS A DEACON
Prior to being named head coach, Holmes spent one season as an
assistant coach at Bloomfield. Coach Holmes came to the Bloomfield campus via NJIT where he spent two seasons as assistant men’s basketball coach. On the high school level, Holmes spent six years at Columbia High School in South Orange, NJ where he served as JV Head Coach and assistant varsity coach. A resident of West Orange, NJ, he holds a B.S. degree in Engineering Science from NJIT. In August of 2007 he was named in, “Who’s Who Among American Teachers and Educators” for his ability and dedication to making a significant difference in the lives of his students.
