CALDWELL, NJ: The men's soccer team took another step towards cementing a CACC playoff berth Thursday afternoon, as they improved to 5-3-1 in conference play with a 4-1 victory over the rival Caldwell College Cougars.
The Deacons dominated play from the opening whistle, out-shooting the Cougars 18 to 7 over the course of 90 minutes. The clubs played scoreless soccer until the 23'rd minute, when Bloomfield senior forward Evans Tageo took a pass from
Terry Gibbs and fired a shot past Caldwell's keeper from 10 yards out to give the Deacons a 1-0 lead. Tageo struck again in the early stages of the second half, when he took a feed from
Andy Aguilar and knocked it in from 15 yards out for his second goal of the contest, giving the Deacons a 2-0 cushion.
The scoring barrage continued when
Andres DeCastro knocked in a cross from
Cristian Raigoza to put the game out of reach at 3-0 in the 60'th minute. Caldwell got themselves on the board when Facundo Zalazar tallyed his sixth goal of the season to move the score to 3-1. But
Terry Gibbs provided the final dagger for the Deacons, scoring on a breakaway to give Bloomfield a 4-1 lead it would not relinquish.
The squad returns to action Tuesday, October 27 with a match against conference rival Nyack College. The opening whistle is set for 3:00 PM, with a special ceremony honoring the club's seniors scheduled for prior to the start of the game.
