The men's soccer team fell in their final regular season contest of the 2009 season Saturday afternoon, coming up on the short end of a 2-1 decision to Dowling College in Oakdale, NY.
With their postseason spot already secured, the Deacons used the non-conference tilt to give their starters some much-needed rest, and give their bench an opportunity to play quality minutes in the club's final tuneup before their postseason game against Philadelphia University Tuesday.
Stefan Draskovic got the Lions on the board early with a goal in the 21'st minute, giving Dowling a 1-0 lead. Steven Schneider provided the eventual game-winner just 17 minutes later, giving the Lions a 2-0 cushion. The Deacons would respond with their only offensive strike of the day just two minutes later, when forward
Terry Gibbs took a pass from
Juan Ramirez and fired it past the Lions keeper to cut the lead to 2-1. But that is where the match would stay through the final 52 minutes of play, with the Deacons unable to muster the equalizer in the second frame.
The team returns to action Tuesday in the opening round of the CACC Tournament, when they travel to Philly to take on Philadelphia University.
