BLOOMFIELD, NJ - The women's basketball team won their second pivotal CACC matchup of the week Thursday night, moving into a tie atop the CACC North Division standings with a hard-fought 74-66 victory over Nyack College in the Deacons' Den.
Two nights ago, it was a relentless defense that brought home for the victory for Coach Wimberly's squad. On this night, it was a balanced offensive onslaught that allowed the Lady Deacons to capture their fifth CACC victory of the season. Bloomfield caught fire from beyond the arch, hitting their three-point attempts at an unbelievable 58% in 12 tries.
The matchup was a seesaw battle for most of the evening, with the Lady Warriors holding a 36-31 advantage through the first 20 minutes of play. But the hot shooting of the Lady Deacons took over in the second half, allowing the group to outscore Nyack 42-31 over the final frame. The Lady Warriors were relentless till the end, keeping themselves within striking distance and forcing the Lady Deacons to consistently connect from the field to keep them at bay. But a late three by senior
Emily Horrocks in the game's final minutes proved to be the dagger, preserving the eight-point win and putting the margin out of reach for the Lady Warriors.
Four players posted at least twelve points in the victory, with senior
Alexis Sweeney leading the charge in her best performance of the season. Her 16 points were a season high for the captain guard, and the spark she provided from the moment she stepped on the floor propelled the Lady Deacons to an important win. Inside,
Tiffany McDaniel continued her dominant play in the paint to the tune of 12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds, while
Milani Malik was on point from long range, connecting on three of five threes and posting 12 points. Unsung hero Horrocks put forth one of her best offensive performances of her senior season on the night, dropping 14 points while dishing out six assists.
The team returns to action Saturday, January 23 with a home CACC matchup against Georgian Court University. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
