PHILADELPHIA, PA - The men's soccer team moved to within a single victory of capturing the regular season CACC crown Saturday afternoon, as they overpowered the Chestnut Hill College Griffins 5-1 in a pivotal conference road clash. The win moves the Deacons to 11-3-1 overall and 8-0-1 in conference play.
The talented tandem of
Dwayne Reid and
Triston Sommerville collaborated on the Deacons' first two goals of the afternoon, with Reid tallying both on feeds from his fellow senior. The forward's strikes came in the 28th, and 43rd minutes to send Bloomfield into the break up 2-0.
Coach Falloon's squad didn't stop there, as
Terry Gibbs added an unassisted goal in the 53rd minute to put the Deacons up comfortably at 3-0. After a Chestnut Hill goal by Gavin Reid in the 62nd minute,
Claude Allen added an unassisted goal to give the Deacons their fourth tally of the contest and move the lead back to three. Edgar Aguilar notched the club's fifth goal of the match in the 86th minute off a cross from
Andres DeCastro to close out the 5-1 victory.
"This was a good win for our team, because we have been struggling a little bit of late," head coach
Peter-John Falloon said. "We played our game today, and hopefully we can keep it going as we close out the regular season."
The team returns to action Tuesday, October 26 with a road CACC contest against Nyack College in a rematch of last year's CACC final. The opening whistle is set for 3:00 PM.
