Daye brings Deacons back against Nyack, top Warriors 85-79

Junior's game-high 34 points helps Deacons remain in first place

NYACK, NY - The men's basketball team improved to 11-2 in CACC play Thursday night, as they outlasted the Nyack College Warriors 85-79 in Nyack.

Coach Holmes' club rode a 44% shooting performance from the field in which they connected on four three-point attempts to take an eight-point lead into the break, mounting a 42-31 advantage heading into the break.  It seemed as though BC would be able to roll to their 11th conference victory of the season, and keep their seat atop the CACC North Division intact. They were able to extend their lead to 12 with just over 17 minutes left to play, and seemed poised to roll to a road conference victory.

But the Warriors were able to chip away at the cushion over the next 14 minutes of play, eventually taking a one-point lead at 73-72 with just over three minutes to play.  Undaunted, the Deacons were able to orchestrate a 14-7 run of their own over the game's final three minutes, answering the call and putting the game away to preserve their 18th victory of the season.

Junior guard Gage Daye was the headliner for the Deacons, willing his club to the victory with a game-high 34 points and six rebounds.  Elias Brantley and Ryan Rodrigues helped control the backcourt, dropping 17 and 12 points respectively.  Chris Sampson posted his second-straight double-double down low for the Deacons, notching 16 points and 11 rebounds in the hard-fought victory.

The team returns to action Saturday, February 13 with a road contest against South Division-leading Philadelphia University.  Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
