NYACK, NY - The women's basketball team fell to 9-5 in CACC play in heartbreaking fashion Thursday night, as they were edged by the Nyack College Lady Warriors 74-72 in Nyack.
The Lady Deacons' offense hit on all cylinders in the first half of play, as Coach Wimberly's squad shot 51% from the floor. It wasn't enough to send Bloomfield to the locker room on top, though, as the Lady Warriors held a 42-38 advantage heading into the break.
It seemed as if the battle of two clubs tied for first place in the CACC North Division was the Lady Deacons' for the taking, as they opened up the second half with an 8-0 run to take a four-point lead in the blink of an eye. But the Lady Warriors would recover quickly, and the nip-and-tuck battle would need five more minutes of play to decide a winner as the clubs played to a 66-66 draw through the first 40 minutes of play.
Nyack would control the opening stages of the extra period, opening things up with a 5-0 run that put the Lady Deacons behind the eight ball. BC stormed back with a 6-0 run of their own, seemingly doing enough to hold on for a hard-fought road victory and sole possession of first place in the North. But Lekesha Harris would net a three-pointer for Nyack in the game's waning seconds, giving the Lady Warriors a one-point lead BC could not overcome.
Dre'Shonda Williams had her best offensive performance of the season in the loss, dropping 20 points and dishing out two assists.
Emily Horrocks was also an impact performer on the front line, posting 16 points and six rebounds, while
Tiffany McDaniel controlled the paint with 14 points and seven rebounds.
Alexis Sweeney came off the bench to post double-figures in the loss, notching 10 points.
The team returns to action Saturday with a road contest against Philadelphia University. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
