BLOOMFIELD, NJ - The Deacons rode one of the premier scorers in the nation to their tenth CACC victory of the season Sunday afternoon, as they put forth a dominating performance in a 91-74 home victory over the Holy Family University Tigers.
From the opening tip, it was clear junior guard
Gage Daye would make it a point to put his stamp on the affair. Controlling the pace on the offensive end, #10 came storming out of the gates to notch an eye-popping 18 points in the game's first ten minutes of play, giving the Deacons a sizable advantage early and helping them take a 49-36 advantage into the break.
It was more of the same from Daye in the second frame, only this time he was gashing the Tigers by getting his teammates into the act. He mounted his assist total to seven helpers on the afternoon, and systematically dismantled the Tigers to the tune of 36 points and 12 rebounds in one of his most dominant performances of his junior campaign. Combined with the Deacons shooting over 40% from the floor, the onslaught was too much for the Tigers to overcome, as the Deacons improved to 16-4 on the season and remained in first place in the CACC North Division.
Elias Brantley was an outstanding backcourt compliment to Daye's big afternoon, notching 12 points while going 6-7 from the free-throw line.
Ryan Rodrigues was solid as well, posting nine points and pulling down four rebounds in the win.
The team returns to action Tuesday, February 9 with a road match against North Division rival Felician College. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 PM.
