BLOOMFIELD, N.J. (October 8, 2011) - Senior forward
Terry Gibbs (London, England) posted his second hat trick in three matches Saturday afternoon, as the men's soccer team improved to 4-5-1 overall and 2-2-1 in conference play with a decisive 6-1 home victory over CACC rival Holy Family University.
Coming into the match undefeated in conference play, Holy Family was greated with an offensive onslaught from the surging Deacons led by their All-Region forward Gibbs, who pushed his total to seven goals over the team's three-game winning streak. Fellow senior
Juan Ramirez (Medellin, Columbia) kicked off the scoring in the 18th minute, heading in a cross from
Edgar Aguilar (Bayonne, N.J.) to put Bloomfield up 1-0. The Tigers would strike back in the 25th minute, as Dodji Freitas drove in a free kick from just outside the 18 to even the match at one.
It would prove to be the closest the visitors would come to staying unbeaten in CACC play, as the Deacons closed the match with five unanswered goals to emphatically state their claim as a team on the rise midway through the 2011 season. Reserve forward
Edwin Ventura (North Bergen, N.J.) came off the bench to notch a breakaway goal in the 42nd minute, streaking down the left side and beating Holy Family keeper Mark Ferretti to put the Deacons up 4-1. An own goal by the Tigers in the final minute of the first half concluded the offensive flurry, leaving Bloomfield up 5-1 aver after four goals in a 16-minute span to close the frame.
Gibbs would complete his masterpiece in the 76th minute, icing the 6-1 victory by knocking in a cross from
Claude Allen (Kingston, Jamaica) to secure the hat trick, placing him just a single tally behind the CACC lead with nine goals on the season. Bloomfield outshot the Tigers 31-9 in the dominating performance, securing their second consecutive victory over a regionally-ranked opponent in four days.
Ramirez finished the afternoon with four points of his own, while Allen improved his total to 12 points on the year with an assist, good for third on the club.
"We played extremely well today, in all phases of the game," Bloomfield head coach
Peter-John Falloon said. "We got some offense from a lot of different areas, but Terry's play was once again outstanding. He has really picked up his play, and it has lifted our team. We are really building some nice momentum, and hopefully we can keep that going as we face our conference opponents next week."
Bloomfield returns to action Monday, October 10 with a road match against CACC rival Goldey Beacom College. Start time for the contest is scheduled for 3:30 PM.
