BOX SCORE
WALTHAM, Mass. (November 12, 2011) - Bloomfield's men's basketball team fell to 0-2 on the season Saturday evening, as they dropped an 83-74 road decision to non-conference opponent Bentley University in the team's final leg of the Bentley Tip-Off Classic.
A rematch of last season's thrilling
East Regional Final, the sides engaged in a seesaw battle in the opening 20 minutes of play, with seven lead changes and six ties over the course of the frame. The Deacons would emerge on top heading into the intermission, shooting 43% from the field and 6-14 from beyond the arc to take a slim 44-40 lead into the break.
The advantage would quickly evaporate, though, as Bentley would engineer an 11-2 run to open the period and put the Deacons behind 51-46. Bloomfield would remain within striking distance, drawing to within a single point at 63-62 with just over eight minutes to play. But the Falcons would withstand the hard charge, and orchestrate a final spurt to pull away and move the lead back to 12 at 78-66 with 2:18 remaining. It would prove to be too much for the Deacons to overcome, with the Falcons holding on for the eight-point victory and leaving Bloomfield still in search of its first victory of 2011.
Four players reached double-figures in scoring for the visiting Deacons, with
Terry Hicks (Neptune, N.J.) leading the team for the second consecutive game with 18 points, three assists and three steals.
Matt Wafula (Harlem, N.Y.),
Ahmad Harris (Linden, N.J.) and rookie guard
Michael Rotando (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.) each tallied 12 points in the setback, with Wafula pulling down eight rebounds and dishing out a pair of assists. Harris totaled seven rebounds and eight assists in a trademark all-around performance, while
Jon Bradley (Jersey City, N.J.) came off the bench to total eight points and five ebounds in a solid effort.
Bloomfield returns to action Saturday, November 19 with their first home contest of the season against non-conference opponent CW Post University. Tip-off for the contest is set for 2:00 PM.
