BOX SCORE
BLOOMFIELD, N.J. (January 12, 2012) - Senior forward
Matt Wafula (Harlem, N.Y.) led a quartet of double-figure scorers with 23 points Thursday evening, as Bloomfield's men's basketball team improved to 13-5 overall and 7-1 in conference play with a 79-73 home victory over CACC rival Concordia College.
The visiting Clippers matched the league's hottest team stride-for-stride in the first half, with neither team leading by more than five points in the opening 20 minutes of play. The period featured six ties and eight lead changes, with a late three by Concordia's Argelix Gil knotting the score at 33 heading into the intermission.
It would prove to be the closest the visitors would come to snapping the Deacons' nine-game winning streak, as Bloomfield would execute a 10-4 spurt midway through the second-half to take their largest lead of the night at 60-50 with 5:05 to play. The home team would hold on the rest of the way, despite a frantic comeback attempt by the Clippers over the game's final minutes. The win moves the Deacons to 8-1 at home on the season, and stretches their current winning streak to double-digits at 10 straight victories.
Wafula added seven rebounds on the evening, and sits just 13 points shy of 1,000 for his collegiate career. Rookie guard
Marvin Williams (Jersey City, N.J.) continued his breakout rookie campaign with 17 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals in the win, while
Terry Hicks (Neptune, N.J.) added 16 points and four assists.
Ahmad Harris (Linden, N.J.) nearly posted a double-double with nine assists, 10 rebounds and three steals, while
Kevin Udo (West Orange, N.J.) contributed 10 points and a pair of blocks.
Bloomfield returns to action Wednesday, January 18 when they host CACC North Division rival Caldwell College. Tip-off for the contest is set for 8:00 PM.
