BOX SCORE
WATERBURY, Conn. (October 3, 2012) - The Bloomfield College men's soccer team moved to 5-3-1 overall and 3-1-1 in conference play Wednesday afternoon, as they played CACC rival Post University to a 0-0 tie over 110 minutes of action in the club's fourth road conference match of the season.
A defensive battle from the outset, the back line for each club was able to turn away every scoring chance over 90 minutes of regulation. Bloomfield was able to total six shots in each of the two 45-minute halves, but could not find the back of the net to open the afternoon's scoring. Senior
Diego Mayanga (Queens, N.Y.) and junior defender
Devarr Pedlar (Brooklyn, N.Y.) each totaled a pair of shots on goal, but the Eagles proved up to the task of keeping the match scoreless through two ten-minute overtime periods. Sophomore keeper
Kieran Moran (Bronx, N.Y.) totaled six saves to earn his fourth shutout of the season, helping the Deacons earn a key draw against one of the CACC's top teams and maintain their position in the hunt for the conference tournament.
"Today's match was extremely physical, so it is good to see we were able to meet that challenge and come away with a tie," Bloomfield head coach
Peter-John Falloon said. "We have another tough test on Saturday afternoon, so we must get prepared quickly to be able to match what our opponent will be bringing to the field. Holy Family eliminated us from the tournament last season, so we will definitely have some added motivation heading into that game. We did a lot of good things today, things that must carry over to Saturday if we are going to be successful."
Bloomfield returns to action Saturday, October 6 when they travel to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to take on CACC rival Holy Family University in a rematch of last season's CACC Tournament Opening Round. Kickoff for the contest is scheduled for 2:30 PM.
